What to Look For

Banding

Visible bands or steps in the gradient instead of smooth transitions. This is usually caused by insufficient color depth (e.g., 6-bit panels) or driver issues.

Color Shift

Colors in certain areas noticeably deviate from the normal gradient path. This may indicate inaccurate display color calibration.

Smooth Transition

Ideally, gradients should be very smooth with no visible boundaries. 8-bit or higher color depth displays typically perform better.

Technical Notes

Bit depth affects how many colors a display can show. 8-bit panels can display about 16.7 million colors, while 6-bit panels only about 260,000.

High-quality displays should show very smooth gradients with barely visible banding. If you see obvious bands, consider upgrading your display or adjusting settings.

Note: Browser and operating system color management also affects test results. Testing under optimal display settings is recommended.
